Obituary of Eugene P. Shreve

Eugene P. Shreve, a resident of Serenity Care Home at 269 Little Sand Run Road, Buckhannon, WV, died on September 24, 2016. He was born on April 1, 1927, in Upshur County, WV, a son of the late Enoch Newton and Edna Mae Miles Shreve. On March 26, 1949, he married Ruth Hattie Melton, who preceded him in death on October 6, 1999. He is survived by three sons, Dr. Steven E. Shreve and wife Dorothy of Oakmont, PA, the Rev. Dr. Joseph M. Shreve and wife Vicky, of Weston, WV, and Dr. Andrew P. Shreve, of Santa Fe, NM, four grandchildren, Dr. Andrea K. Shreve of Oakmont, PA, Sharon R. Minigh and husband Perry, of Jane Lew, WV, Matthew P. Shreve and wife Tracy, of Houston, PA, and Rachel Shreve and husband A. Gene Romero of Santa Fe, NM, three great grandsons, Coleman Eugene Shreve of Houston, PA, and Isaac Paul Minigh and Elijah Perry Minigh of Jane Lew, WV, and one brother, Calvin M. Shreve of Buckhannon, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Enoch N. Shreve, Jr., and Dixie Lee Shreve. He was a graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in forestry, and was retired from Westvaco Corporation. He was a member of the first West Virginia Board of Registration for Foresters, serving as secretary for several years, and a member of the Society of American Foresters. He was honored in 2010 by being named to the Agriculture and Forestry Hall of Fame of West Virginia. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a member of Mt. Rupert United Methodist Church. Throughout his life, he taught both youth and adult Sunday School classes for many years and also served as lay leader, lay speaker, church school superintendent, chairperson of Pastor Parish Relations Committee, and many other offices in various United Methodist Churches where he lived. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, was a caring listener for many acquaintances and family members, and a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. Friends will be received at the Poling St. Clair Funeral Home on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 5-8 pm, and a service of death and resurrection will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 2 pm, with Dr. Joseph M. Shreve officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Shreve’s memory to Mt. Rupert United Methodist Church, c/o Eloise Tenney, 24 Wonderview Lane Buckhannon, WV 26201 or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
