Lawrence (Bill) Black, age 88, of Mt. Carmel, WV, died Monday, October 3, 2016 at his home. He was born March 24, 1928 in Buckhannon, a son of the late Glen and Lillie R. Miller Black. On April 8, 1950 he married Stella Virginia Tenney who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Janice Marie Lake and husband Harold D. of Medway, OH, Sandra Jean Day and husband Rev. Wease of Sago, WV and Billie Arlene Davidson and husband John R. of Buckhannon; three sons, Richard Allen Black and wife Diana of French Creek, Freddie Keith Black and Virginia R. and Teddie William Black and wife Carol J. all of Buckhannon; two brothers, Ralph Gene Black of Tallmansville, WV and Thomas Black of Buckhannon; four sisters, Madie Hamner and husband Lawrence of Buckhannon, Mary Tenney and husband Delbert L. of Tallmansville, Lena Keller and Shirley Squires and husband Johnny Parker all of Buckhannon; six grandsons, Jamie Black and Eric Black and wife Areta all of French Creek, Jason Lake of Xenia, OH, Wesley Day, Jeremy Davidson and Samuel Black all of Buckhannon; seven granddaughters, Paula Lake of Morrow, OH, Rachel Smarr and husband James of French Creek, Wendy Day and husband Kyle, Jenny Tenney and husband Patrick, Emily, Keyarra and Lauren Black all of Buckhannon; two great-grandsons, David Smarr of French Creek and Josiah Simmons of Buckhannon; six great-granddaughters, Victoria, Alexandria and Elizabeth Black all of Glenville, WV, Taylor and Lyndsey Black both of Buckhannon and Orianna Simmons of Buckhannon. Mr. Black was a coal miner. He was a member of the UMWA and also attended the Sago Baptist Church of Sago, WV. He was an avid fisherman and hunter also a former member of a bowling league. Bill's nickname for the CB Handle was Shotgun Daddy. Friends will be received Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease L. Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tallmansville, WV.
