Obituary of Jayne B. Carson

Jayne B. Carson, age 64, of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born October 14, 1952 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Dean and Kathleen Reeder Byrd. On June 10, 1978 she married David William Carson who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey Carson of Missoula, MT and Christopher Carson and fiancée Sarah Mason of Philadelphia, PA; one sister, Sandra Currence and husband Kenneth of Buckhannon; two nephews, David Currence and wife Mindy and Aaron Currence and wife Sherry all of Buckhannon; three great-nephews, Kason, Benjamin and Jaron Currence all of Buckhannon and one great-niece, Harper Currence of Buckhannon. In 1970 Jayne graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School and went on to pursue her Education Degree at Fairmont State University. She achieved her Bachelor of Arts Degree in May of 1974. Jayne would go on to attain her Master’s in Administrative Education from West Virginia University. While she was in pursuit of her Master’s degree Jayne began her 35 years career in the Upshur County System. Jayne’s first position was to teach at Adrian School from 1974-78. From 1980-84, Jayne taught Reading Language at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School. Her first administrative position came in 1984 when she took the position of principal at Rock Cave Elementary. She would hold that position until she moved to Central Elementary which was her longest tenure where she was principal from 1990-2001. In 2001, she split time between East Main Street and Central Elementary. She would leave both to become Assistant Principal at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School where she would finish her career in 2009. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa which is an International Education Honorary. In 1989 she was the Trainer of the WV Principal’s Academy. After she retired, educating children was—and continued to be—a life-long pursuit of hers. Her love and desire to help children manifested from her love for her family. Jayne was a beloved wife, a proud mother, a devoted sister, and a caring aunt. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choosing in honor of Jayne’s giving spirit. Friends will be received Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Stephen Engle officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
