Obituary of ​Sherwood Everson

Sherwood “Jim” Everson, age 96, of Buckhannon, WV, died Monday, December 25, 2017 at his home. He was born August 23, 1921 in Barbour County, WV, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Blanche Thompson Everson. On February 14, 1942 he married Dessie Sothen who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Rose Mary Jackson, Kathern Minix and Trecia Chidester all of Buckhannon; two sons, Johnny Everson and wife Helen and Delmar Joe Everson and wife Kenna all of Buckhannon; nine granddaughters, Jessica Everson, Kim Presutti, Sheena Bosley and husband Ronald, Stacy Underwood, Lisa Hichman and husband Tommy Jr., Trish Fultz and husband Matthew, Tracy Dyar and husband Jason and Patty Mackey and husband Steven all of Buckhannon and Chrissy Oldaker and husband Darren of Lewis County, WV; two grandsons, James Sheets and Jeffrey Everson and fiancé Carol all of Buckhannon; nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, James Darwin Everson; two sisters, Hazel Lantz and Esteline Ware and three brothers, Winford, Bernard and William Everson. Mr. Everson was a coal miner. He was a member of the River Church of Christ. Mr. Everson served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 3663 in Buckhannon. Friends will be received Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Thursday at the funeral home with Albert Farley officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Springs Cemetery on McDermott Ridge. Upshur County Honor Guard will provide Military Honors at the Grave. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
