Obituary of ​Harold Johns

Harold Burton Johns, Sr., 83, of Flintstone, MD, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017. He was born January 15, 1934, in Crawford, WV, a son of the late Jesse Johns and Opal (McCartney) Johns. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Johns. A graduate of Buckhannon High School, Class of 1953, Harold was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War Conflict. He was a woodworker and a man of many trades. Harold worked for the Allegany County Board of Education and retired from Allegany Community College. Harold is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anna Ruth (Reed) Johns; and his children, Cornelia Cooley and husband Willis of Greencastle, PA, Donnis Temple and husband Dicky of Hornbeck, LA, Harold Johns, Jr. and wife Mary of Columbia, MD, Malinda Hardcastle and husband Randy of North Richland Hills, TX and Teresa Snyder and husband Douglas of Little Orleans, MD. He also leaves behind his brothers, Howard and Nelson Johns both of Buckhannon, WV and Michael Johns of Nitro, WV; his sisters, Francis Stewart of Denver, NC and Dorothy Koert of Buckhannon, WV; as well as 13 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 19 step great grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Thursday, December 28, 2017, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friends will also be received Friday, December 29, 2017, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M at the Poling St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon, WV. A funeral service will be held 9 AM Saturday at the Poling St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon with Pastor David Jessie officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park in Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Flintstone Volunteer Fire Department, Post Office Box #105, Flintstone, MD 21530. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
