Carrol Lee (Cuge) Crites of Buckhannon died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Carrol was born in Upshur County, West Virginia, June 18, 1929, the second of four children born to Raymond and Ruth Lee Lewis Crites. On May 26, 1949, he married Juanita Brady Crites, who preceded him in death in 1998. His siblings included a brother, Darrel Lee Crites, and sister-in-law, and Betty Jo Crites, who preceded him in death, and is survived by two sisters, Ruth Mildred Tenney and husband, Charles Tenney of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Patty Jean Mayo and husband, Robert Mayo of Williamstown, West Virginia. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and extended relatives. He is further survived by his dear friends, Hobe Turner, Johnnie and Jo Davidson and Roy and Joyce Ann Law and a host of loving caregivers. Mr. Crites was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Clarksburg, West Virginia, where he worked as an assistant in the physical and occupational therapy department. After retiring from the Veterans Hospital he worked for local car dealerships transporting vehicles. Carrol was a Mason and a Shriner. As a Shriner he volunteered many years transporting children for treatment to Shriner Hospitals in Lexington, KY and Erie, PA, among others. In 2011 he was honored by the Shriners for traveling 200,000 miles without an accident. Carrol and Juanita enjoyed traveling and keeping their beautiful home and lawn immaculate. Mr. Crites was a Christian by faith and enjoyed listening and singing gospel music. He will be entombed beside his wife at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Quiet Dell, West Virginia. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home on Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 11 AM until 1 PM the funeral hour with the Pastor Jay Teodoro officiating. Entombment will follow in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Quiet Dell, WV. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
