Obituary of Joe Henry Strouth

Joe Henry Strouth Joe Henry Strouth, age 79, of Buckhannon, WV, departed this life at home surrounded by his family to be with Jesus on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. He was born July 22, 1937 in Bluefield, WV and moved to Buckhannon, WV when he was 8 years old and graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School class of 1955. He was a son of the late John Henry and Ravenell Maxine Lilly Strouth. Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Vicki Jo Strouth Billie and a granddaughter Jami Billie. On August 26, 1961 he married the love of his life Margaret “Sis” Dean who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Vivian Smith and husband John of Buckhannon and Valerie McKellar of Charlotte, NC; four grandsons, Joseph Billie and wife Chelsea of Morgantown, Brandon Bennett of Buckhannon, Nicholas and Zachary Calcanes of Charlotte; three granddaughters, Kaityln Billie of Frederick, MD, Alexa Bennett of Buckhannon and Halle McKellar of Charlotte; one great grandson, Liam Billie of Morgantown, WV; three great granddaughters, Lauren and Lyndsey Billie of Morgantown and Cambrie Bennett of Buckhannon; one brother, David Strouth of Clarksburg, WV; one sister, Mickey Petitto of Clarksburg; also several nieces, nephews and extended members of the Dean family. Joe retired from Moore Business Forms with 30 years of service, after which he worked at RESA VII as a computer technician. He was a Christian and his home church was Kesling United Methodist. Joe spread the gospel through playing and singing for various gospel groups including the Sonlighters Quartet. He was a self-taught musician who spent countless hours replicating the tunes of Chet Atkins. He was also an avid golfer and a member of the Buckhannon Country Club. Joe brought joy and laughter to all whose paths he crossed. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family. He served in the US Army during the beginning of the Vietnam War in Okinawa, Japan and Thailand. Friends will be received at the Polng-St..Clair Funeral Home Thursday, December 8, 2016 from 4-7 PM. A funeral service will be held 11 am Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels and Rev. Jack M. Bohman officiating. Burial will follow in the Kesling Mill Cemetery, with Upshur County Honor Guard providing Military honors at the graveside. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
