Eric W. Wamsley
Eric W. Wamsley, 69, of Old Elkins Road, Buckhannon, WV, died Wednesday, December 14th, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV, after a long struggle with many health problems.
He was born 14 August 1947, at Sand Run, Upshur County, WV, the son of the late Winston W. Wamsley and Margaret I. (Moss) Wamsley. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Autry W. Wamsley; nephew, Kurt W. Fumerola; five uncles: Victor Moss, C. Ishmael Moss, L. Lairl Moss, Leonard Wamsley, and Lloyd S. Wamsley; and seven aunts, Susan J. (Moss) Osborn, Hope (Wamsley) Stanton, Angeline (Wamsley) Kittle, Rosalie (Wamsley) Bennett, Varna Mae (Wamsley) Evans, Juandena (Wamsley) Simons, and Lacy Wamsley.
Always strong in his faith and very much a praying person, he was a member of Nay’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Ellamore Charge. As a youth, he was a Boy Scout and had a lifelong affinity for the forests he had so often enjoyed. He also had a special fondness for the small agrarian way of life and an enduring passion for the world of music. He was a true West Virginia patriot and supporter of the Constitutional ideals this country was founded upon and was enthusiastic to make America great again. He was especially an admirer of the Armed Forces and the important work they do in extending the hand of liberty to others and preserving that promise for the generations at home.
He had attended Sand Run School, the innovative school for special needs children on Cleveland Avenue, later participated at the Work Adjustment Center, and remained a dedicated life-long learner. He also enjoyed sporting competition and competed in Special Olympics, earning gold medals in multiple events at the local, regional, and state levels.
Mr. Wamsley is survived by three sisters: Mrs. Sandra W. and husband Raymond C. Kesling, of Buckhannon, WV; Mrs. Karen L. and husband Junior Q. Fumerola, of Farmdale, Ohio; and Mrs. C. Mateal and husband Matthew G. Poling, of Buckhannon, WV. One uncle, Ronsdale Wamsley, of Buckhannon, WV, survives. He is also survived by one nephew, Kevin Q. Fumerola, of Farmdale; four nieces: Mikaela I., Mikenze W., and Mikinna S. Poling, all of Buckhannon. Alaina L. Keeney resides in Cortland, OH. He is also survived by great-nephews and nieces: Taylor, Nathaniel, Liam, Cecilia Keeney of Cortland, OH; and by many cousins.
Visitation will be at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, Buckhannon, from noon until 2 o’clock, on Friday, December 16th, with the funeral immediately following. The Rev. Rose McCartney will be officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Union United Methodist Church Cemetery, Mt. Union, Upshur County, WV.
