Obituary of Billie Robert Gatrell

Billie Robert Gatrell, age 83, of Tallmansville, WV, died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at his home. He was born November 26, 1933 in Tallmansville, a son of the late Charles R. and Juanita Tenney Gatrell. On April 12, 1997 he married Mary Alice Kelley Bennett who survives. Also surviving are one stepson, Dale P. Bennett and wife Terri Jo of Tallmansville; two step granddaughters, Heather Wright and husband Mark of Buckhannon and Tessa Gaughan and husband Steven of Sanford, NC; one step grandson, Ty Bennett and Tameka of Tallmansville; six step great-grandsons; one sister, Thelma L. Gatrell Westfall of Wake Forest, NC; three half-brothers and three half-sisters all of CA; a special half-brother, Warren Gatrell and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gatrell was a Veteran of U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School and also WVWC. Mr. Gatrell was a retired construction worker having built tunnels in New York and CA. Also he retired after 26 years as Owner of Gatrell’s Grocery Store. He loved watching WVU Basketball and Football. Friends will be received Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 11 AM until 1 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 PM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Tallmansville Baptist Church Cemetery in Tallmansville. The Upshur County Honor Guard will provide military honors at the graveside. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart Disease charity of your choice.
