Obituary of Harley Augustus Brown

Harley Augusts Brown, age 84, of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born May 10, 1932 in Webster County, WV, a son of the late Charles Race and Hazel Oleta Smith Brown. On December 22, 1952 he married Dora Marie Tenney who preceded him in death on December 8, 2013. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lulu Barlow and one half-brother Robert Brown. Surviving are one son, Randy Brown and wife Lori of Plantation, FL; one daughter, Martha Randolph and husband Neil of New Cumberland, WV; one granddaughter, Jaclyn Randolph of Alexandria, VA; one step-grandson, Matthew Prince of St. Petersburg, FL; two sisters, Lillie Moore and husband Richard of Buckhannon and Patricia Brown of New Port Richey, FL; one brother-in-law, Joseph Tenney & wife Judy of Buckhannon; four sisters-in-law, Elouise Tenney of Buckhannon, Oleta Watts of Evans, GA, Sue Wamsley and husband Douglas of Ellamore, WV and Leverne Tenney of Marietta, OH and several nieces and nephews.. Mr. Brown served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. Harley received the United Methodist Service award and was a graduate of the University of Hard Knocks. He was a board member for the Buckhannon Senior Center, the Parish House and served on the Buckhannon City Water Board. Mr. Brown was the Public Works Director for the City of Buckhannon and previously served as a member of the Buckhannon City Council. He was a member of the Mt. Rupert United Methodist Church. Friends will be received Friday, March 24, 2017, from 2 PM to 8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Saturday at 12 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Jack M. Bohman and Rev. Dr. Joseph M. Shreve officiating. Burial will follow at the Heavner Cemetery. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Mt. Rupert United Methodist Church, c/o Elouise Tenney, 24 Wonderview Lane, Buckhannon, WV 26201.
