Obituary of Douglas MacArthur Davis

Douglas MacArthur Davis, age 75, of Belington, WV died Monday, April 17, 2017 at Meadow View Manor of Bridgeport, WV. He was born April 12, 1942 in Ellamore, WV, a son of the late Wilford L. and Valta Rowan Davis. On March 14, 1964 he married Paula Sue Cunningham who preceded him in death on September 4, 1998. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one daughter, Poppy Sponaugle; eight brothers, Ira “Bud”, Wilford Lorn Davis, Jr, James “Jim”, Harry, Larry “Beanie”, Mason, Donald and Ruhl Davis and two sisters, Sylvia Zirkle and Lillian Linger. He is survived by two sons, Brian Keith Davis and wife April of Rittman, OH and Joshua Todd Webley and wife Kim of Wadsworth, OH; two daughters, Christina Waybright and husband Marty of Belington and Aaron Heck of Buckhannon; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Artis Davis of Brunswick, OH and Everett Davis of Gould, WV and two sisters, Lieuthanna Hall of Teter, WV and Macil Robison of Strongsville, OH. Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Alfred A. Cunningham Destroyer in the Tonkin Gulf. He was a Life member of the VFW Post # 410, the Eagles # 4357 in Buckhannon, and American Legion Post # 96 in Belington. He was a Coal Miner for Island Creek and Barbour Coal and was a Baptist by faith. Friends will be received Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. He will Lie in State Friday from 12 – 1 PM at the Mt. Union United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Phillips and Pastor Downing Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery in Buckhannon. The Upshur County Honor Guard will provide Military Honors at the graveside. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
