Obituary of Phyllis Ann Bailey

Phyllis Ann Byrd Bailey of the Hodgesville area, 144 Winding Lane Road, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 2:05 p.m. at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH with her mother and daughter by her side. She was awaiting a double lung transplant but passed away due to complications of the lungs and heart. She was born November 1, 1957 in Columbus, OH a daughter of Donald Ray and Barbara Bush Byrd of the Hodgesville area, Winding Lane Road. Left to cherish her memory, her only child, daughter Jennifer Dean Ervin and husband Scott, of the Hodgesville area, Winding Lane Road; her fiancée, Danny Coombs of Hacker Valley, whom she loved dearly; her only grandson, Cameron Ervin, who meant so very much to her; a special nephew she loved like a son, Chad Gifford serving with the US Navy in San Diego, CA, whom she was very proud; her mother Barbara who cared for her and was with her every step of the way as she spent many days and nights in the hospitals – St. Joe, Mon General, Allegheny Hospital in Pittsburgh, and Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. She was a fighter, who fought her battle to live with grace, dignity and faith in Lord Jesus. Also surviving are her brother David Byrd and wife Tina of the Hodgesville area, Winding Lane Road; sister Kimber Byrd Gifford and husband Russ of the Hodgesville area, Winding Land Road; her two “kids”, dogs Lucy (a Boston Terrier) and Trixie (a Dachshund) at home and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceding her in death were her father, Don Byrd of the Hodgesville area; a very special sister-in-law Sheila Wamsley Byrd; grandparents “Jake” and Flora Bush of Tanner, WV; Asel and Mayme Byrd of Cox’s Mills, WV and a special cousin, Carla Bush. Phyllis was a 1976 graduate of Buckhannon Upshur High School and attended West Virginia Business School in Clarksburg. She lived several years in Charlotte, North Carolina working as Manager at Circle K. Her last employment was working as a cashier at the Buckhannon Walmart until a debilitating illness did not allow her to work longer. She loved her job and her many friends she worked with. She was saved and knew Jesus as her Savior, was a member of the Sand Run Baptist Church at Excelsior, and a member of Pringle Tree CEOS. She loved to play scrabble on line with “Words with Friends”. Her favorite buddies were Survivor, Marilyn K and Linda W. She enjoyed going with Danny to yard sales, car shows, collecting Fenton glass and anything primitive. She and Danny loved taking “Mom” out to dinner every Sunday. She especially loved Christmas, choosing gifts for Dennis, Danny & David’s sons and giving gifts to her family. She was a beloved “Nana” to Cameron and an awesome aunt to her “Chadwacky”. She will be greatly missed by Jennifer and Scott, her fiancée Danny, mother Barbara, grandson, nephew, brother, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins and her many friends and coworkers. A memorial service will be held 1 PM on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the Sand Run Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating.
