Melvin Ray “Butch” Hyre, age 74, of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at his home. He was born May 17, 1943 in Upshur County, a son of the late Arthur William and Ella Mae Cutright Hyre. On July 15, 1966 he married Thurlene Hamrick who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Brenda Ann Flack and husband Daniel of Buckhannon, Cindy Dawn Queen and husband Bobby of Plantation, FL and Melissa Gail Currence and husband Billy of Buckhannon; three granddaughters, Desiree Nicole Hollen and Kirsten and Kasey Currence all of Buckhannon; five grandsons, Rusty Hollen and wife Miranda of Clarksburg, WV, Tyler Flack of Clifton Fordge, VA, Brooks Flack of Covington, VA and Addison and Austin Clowdus of Hollywood, FL; one great-grandson, Trace Hollen of Clarksburg; one sister, Debra Russell and husband Bobby of Queens, WV and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Ruth Ann Evans and Carol Hamrick and one brother, Lynn Dale “Tiny” Hyre. Mr. Hyre was a print press operator for Moore Business Forms as well as a school bus driver for the Buckhannon-Upshur school district. The kids, whom he adored, called him Mr. Melvin and loved him dearly. Melvin was an avid outdoorsman, loved music and enjoyed nothing more than a day in the woods hunting and fishing with his family. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Sunday, July 9, 2017 from 1 to 3PM, the funeral hour with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
