Vernon Lyle Harris, age 86, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Holbrook’s Nursing Home in Buckhannon. He was born April 14, 1931 a son of the late Samuel Cooper and Myrtle Lee Bennett Harris. On May 12, 1979 he married Bonnie Bell Clutter who preceded him in death on February 28, 2014. Surviving are three daughters, Joyce Evelyn Sienkiewicz and significant other Thomas of Buckhannon, Debra Denise Dollar of Thomson, GA, and Lyla D’Ann Harris-Blevin and husband John of NJ; three grandsons, Aaron Irons and wife Amanda, Charles Dollar, and Steven Dollar all of GA; five granddaughters, Angie Mathews and husband Jason of TX, Jennifer Sienkiewicz of Buckhannon, Sarah Harris-Blevin of PA, Annacler Harris-Blevin of NJ, and Jessica Irons of VA; one step-grandson, Benjamin Sienkiewicz and wife Sarah of Buckhannon; two step-granddaughters, Katie Sienkiewicz and husband James Lyda of SC and Kelly Scott and husband Johnny of Buckhannon; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; one brother, James “Jimmy” Harris of Buckhannon and his former wife, Elizabeth Strawser of Elkins, WV. In addition to his parents and second wife he was preceded in death by one son, Gary Lee Hall; two brothers, Burl Harris and Junior Harris and three sisters, Mary Parsons, Augustine Boyce and Geraldine Cokerill. Mr. Harris was a butcher by trade, a Mason, a member of the National Guard and a Christian by faith. He loved the outdoors and had a passion for gardening. Vernon had a very generous spirit and was known to give friends and family fresh and canned vegetables from his garden. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family and hosting family gatherings. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 9 AM – 11AM, the funeral hour with Pastor Jerry Murrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park in Buckhannon. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors at the graveside.
