Obituary of Maude Lucile Mearns

untitled1 Maude Lucile Mearns Maude Lucile Mearns, age 101, of French Creek, WV died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at her home while under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice. She was born June 23, 1909 in French Creek, a daughter of the late Clarence and Pearl See Wingrove. On March 24, 1934 she married Lyonel Scott “Bill” Mearns who preceded her in death on January 25, 2001. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Winifred Stauffer and a brother, Donovan Wingrove. She is survived by three nieces, Judith Conigy, Kathy Keifer and Lori Eads all of OH and two nephews, Kevin and Kenneth Mearns both of OH. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Mearns was an Elementary School Teacher and Principal in Upshur County for 35 years. She was a member of the Aletha Chapter # 82 Order of the Eastern Star of Rock Cave, WV, the Assoc. of Retired School Employees and the French Creek Presbyterian Church. She was a 1929 graduate of Upshur County High School, a graduate of Wesleyan College and West Virginia University. Friends will be received Friday, September 24, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Order of Eastern Star Service will be held at 8 PM. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Conrad Tenney and the Rev. Charles M. Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in the French Creek Presbyterian Cemetery at French Creek.
