Kennedy, age 78, of Buckhannon, WV, died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born July 8, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY a son of the late Everett and Faith Fowler Kennedy. On December 14, 1957 he married Dixie Dew Hamrick who preceded him in death on February 24, 2014. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one sister, Priscilla Bailey. He is survived by one son John Bruce Kennedy and wife Michael Lisa of Tampa, FL; one grandson, Evan Kennedy of Tampa; one granddaughter, Casey Kennedy of Tampa and one brother, Myles Kennedy of Spearfish, SD. Mr. Kennedy was a desk clerk at the Centennial Motel and served in the US Army from 1958-1960. He was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. John’s joys included his grandchildren, fishing and visiting with family and friends. West Virginia Wesleyan College had a special place in his heart. He enjoyed cheering for the athletic teams and following the WVWC Basketball Team to all of their tournaments. John was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He has great friendships from his time there and has continued to be a father figure to many of the brothers. He touched many lives and has enjoyed receiving calls and letters from students expressing their thanks and promising to pay it forward. A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, June 28, 2014 from 2:00 – 2:30 PM at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with a Memorial Service starting at 2:30 PM. There will be refreshments following the memorial service at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
