Dixie Kennedy Dixie Dew Kennedy Dixie Dew Kennedy, age 78, of Buckhannon, WV, died Monday, February 24, 2014 at the Pierpont Center at Fairmont Campus in Fairmont, WV. She was born February 16, 1936 in Webster Co., WV, a daughter of the late Odie and Monna Chipps Hamrick. On December 14, 1957, she married John E. Kennedy who survives. Also surviving are one son, John Bruce Kennedy and wife Michael Lisa of Tampa, FL; one grandson, Evan Kennedy of Tampa; one granddaughter, Casey Kennedy of Tampa; two sisters, Betty Smith of Fairmont and Annie Sutch and husband Paul of Cleveland, OH and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ron Hamrick and one sister, Vera Marple. Mrs. Kennedy was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Buckhannon and a secretary for J.D. Hinkle & Sons. Dixie’s joys included her grandchildren, spending time with her family and friends, gardening, being the surrogate mother to the brothers at the Theta Chi Fraternity at WVWC. She also thoroughly enjoyed watching and cheering for her favorite sports teams, especially WVWC Bobcat Basketball. Friends will be received Monday, March 3, 2014 from 1 to 1:30 PM at Chapel Hill UMC with a memorial service starting at 1:30 PM with the Rev. Helen R. Oates officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made, in Dixie’s memory, to Chapel Hill UMC or to your favorite charity. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
