Johnson Vesta M Johnson, age 96 of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, February 23, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born August 24, 1918 in Holly Grove, WV, a daughter of the late Charlie Monroe and Sarah Simmons Carpenter. On March 1, 1946 she married Virgil M. Johnson who preceded her in death on October 31, 2009. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by six brothers, John, Oliver, Delbert, Merrill, Orace and Pearly Carpenter and five sisters, Annie and Mae Hinkle, Rhonda Bailey, Delia Bennett and Eva Cochran. Surviving are one daughter Janice Carlyle and husband Don of Buckhannon; two sons, Rex Johnson and wife Beverly of Cumberland, MD and Leonard Johnson and wife Vickie of Volga, WV; two grandsons, Ashley Carlyle and Jessica of Greenville, NC and Dustin Carlyle and wife Desiree of Buckhannon and two great granddaughters Rylen and Finley Carlyle both of Buckhannon. Vesta was a homemaker and a member of the Bethlehem UMC. Friends will be received Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 PM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev John Ingram officiating. Burial will follow in Buckhannon Memorial Park in Buckhannon.
