Obituary of Morgan Lee Perry

Morgan L. Perry, age 87, of Buckhannon died Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at home. He is the son of the late Frank Pierce Perry and Hallie Williams Perry. On March 14, 1953, he married the former Shirley Gwen Andrews who survives. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Gwen and Stephen Hinzman of South Hill, Virginia and Becky and Kenny Wagoner of Buckhannon; two sons, Frank and Sharon Perry of Sissonville and George and Marianne Perry of Inwood; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren; two sisters, Mona G. Anglin of Buckhannon and Norma “Patty” Tenney of Ashtabula, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in in death by one sister Alta Anne “Peaches” Lewis. Mr. Perry served in the US Army in Korea from 1950 to 1952 and was the recipient of three bronze stars. He attended Mt. Hope United Methodist Church and is a life member of the DAV Chapter 36, VFW Post 3663, and American Legion Post 7, where he served three terms as District Commander. Mr. Perry proudly acted as Commander of the Upshur County Combined Honor Guard presiding over numerous military funerals. He was a member of Franklin Lodge #7 AF&AM where he served as Master for four years; Veterans Nursing Home Committee, Upshur County Farm Bureau, Mt. Hope Water Board, and has served as President of the Service Club for more than a decade. He is a past President of the Upshur County Shrine Club and a past recipient of the Buckhannon Upshur Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award. Mr. Perry valued service to others and his country above all else. This was exemplified by his leadership and participation in other organizations too numerous to mention. Friends will be received Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 4 to 8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Anderson and Pastor Mark Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Fork Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted as well as Masonic Rites. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, Pennsylvania 16505.
