Charles Heckert
Charles Heckert, age 90, of Clarksburg, WV died Thursday, December 4, 2014 at WV Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg, WV. He was born June 26, 1924 in Fairmont, WV, a son of the late Guy Stacy and Vera Law Heckert. On November 27, 1982 he married Marjorie A. Palmer who survives. In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Michael Heckert and wife Melanie of Clarksburg; two daughters, Annette LePlante and husband Richard of Inverness, FL and Charlene LeClair and husband Norman of ME; eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchilddren and three sisters, Maxine, Wilda and Barbara. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Charles Heckert and Darrel Heckert and one sister, Ruth. Mr. Heckert was a school teacher. He was a member of the St. Johannes Lutheran Church of St. Clair, WV. He served in the US Air Force and the US Navy during WW II & Korean War. Mr. Heckert was a member of the Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663 and Frank B. Barlett Post # 7 American Legion. He belonged to the Thomas Shryock Lodge # 223 AF & AM and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Mr. Heckert was a member of the Adler Society, Lions Club, American Historical Society, Augustin Society- O.A.A., Steuben Society of America, D.A.N.K., the West Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, American College of Heraldry, and the Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller (International). He received his higher education from WV Wesleyan College, Fairmont State College, WVU and Marshall University. Friends will be received Monday, December 8, 2014 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Heavner officiating. Burial will follow in the Lorentz Cemetery in Lorentz, WV. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to your favorite charity. The Upshur County Honor Guard will provide Military Honors at the graveside. Franklin Lodge # 7 AF & AM will conduct Masonic graveside rites.
