Hinkle Carl D. Hinkle, age 75, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Hospice Care In – Patient Center in Elkins, WV. He was born June 8, 1938 in Buckhannon, a son of Marie Opal Winans Hinkle Hill of Buckhannon and the late Herbert Harper Hinkle. On July 4, 1986 he married Barbara Ann Phillips who survives. In addition to his mother and wife he is survived by two sons, Jerry M. Hinkle and wife Mary of Allen, TX and Kevin S. Hinkle and wife Melissa of Morgantown, WV; two daughters, Karla Mealey and husband Dale of Weston, WV and Amy Buchanan and husband Mark of Barboursville, WV; one step son, Gary Koon of Teays Valley, WV; two step daughters, Lianna Purce of MS and Lisa Crumm and husband Jack of Elkins, WV; six grandsons, Race Hinkle and wife Chelsie of McKinney, TX, Thomas Hinkle of Allen, Cody and Trevor Hinkle both of Morgantown and Benjamin and Aleck Buchanan of Barboursville; two granddaughters, Keely Hinkle of Morgantown and Bryleigh Buchanan of Barboursville; five step grandsons, Tanner Southerland of Madisonville, KY, Evan Southerland of Fort Campbell, KY, Corey, William and Cole Crumm all of Elkins; four step granddaughters, Julie Tucker and husband Chris of Winfield, WV, Emily and Hope Koon both of Winfield, WV, Anna Crumm of Elkins; one great granddaughter, Kaylee Hinkle of McKinney and one step great-grandson, Dylan Morton of Winfield. Mr. Hinkle was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard in 1956 and was called to active duty in 1961 durng the Berlin Crisis and a member of the American Legion Post # 7. He and his father started a contracting business named H & H Builders. He built 26 homes. He was an expert carpenter and a master cabinet and furniture maker. He was a beef cattle farmer and after his retirement from the USDA he worked as a custodian/maintenance supervisor at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, and he worked at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home for 5 years. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. For the last 5 years he enjoyed his winter home in Venice, FL. He was the County Executive Director for the USDA/ASCS (now Farm Service Agency) for over 30 years until his retirement. Friends will be received Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. He will Lie in State on Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 1-2 PM at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held 2 PM at the Chapel Hill UMC with the Rev. Helen R. Oates officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon, with the Upshur County Honor Guard providing Military Honors at the graveside. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Buckhannon River Habitat for Humanity PO Box 495 Buckhannon, WV 26201. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
