Leonard Willis Herron
Leonard Willis Herron, age 94, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, December 20, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. He was born December 8, 1916 in Cassity, WV, a son of the late Boyd and Pearl Loudin Herron. On January 30, 1942 he married Tressa Mae Hartley who preceded him in death on July 29, 1997. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lillian Wilke; one great-grandson, Richard Hoover; one sister, Opal Coberly; one infant sister, Violet Herron and four brothers, George, Raymond, Ellis and Stewart Herron. He is survived by four sons, Dewight “Ike”, Eugene and John Herron all of Buckhannon and Boyd “Bill” Herron and wife June of Queens, WV; five daughters, Mable Kelley and husband Elmer of Tallmansville, WV, Hilda Wagoner and husband Charles of Queens, Brenda DeMoss and husband Caroll of French Creek, WV, Emma Zickefoose and husband Ralph of Buckhannon and Linda Kelley of Buckhannon; one sister, Dessie Harris of Hodgesville, WV; three brothers, Lester Herron and wife Mable of Ashtabula, OH, Roy Herron and wife Charlene of VA and Laurel Herron of PA; thirty-six grandchildren and sixty-two great-grandchildren. Mr. Herron was a custodian for the Upshur County Board of Education and a member of the Harmony United Methodist Church of Queens. He also served in the Army during WW II and was a member of the Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663. Friends will be received Wednesday, December 22, 2010 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Heater officiating. Burial will follow in the Lanham Cemetery at Queens. Buckhannon VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post #7 American Legion, DAV Chapters #5 & #36 will conduct military honors at the graveside. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
