untitled1 George M. Gableman George Marshall Gableman, born October 29, 1915 in Waverly, Ohio graduated from Waverly High School, and received a B.S. degree from Ohio State University in 1939. He was Regional Personnel Director of the War Manpower Commission in Cleveland, Ohio and served in World War II as 1st Lt. AGD with the 9th US Army in the European Theater. He joined the Atomic Energy Commission as Asst. Chief of Personnel Operation in Washington, D.C. and retired as Asst. Director for Operations after 40 years of public service. At Ohio State, he was a charter member of the Stadium Scholarship Dorm, a member of the Ohio State Marching Band, Si U and Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternities and the Industrial Management Club. He served as Chairman of the Scholarship Committee and Co-chair of the Deferred Giving Committee in Washington, and was honored with the Alumni Citizenship Award in 1984. In Alexandria he served in a number of capacities including Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fairlington United Methodist Church, the Seminary Hill Civic Association, President of the Minnie Howard PTA, and on the Alexandria Hospital Corp. He was a member of the Grandstand Managers, Saints and Sinners, and the Army Navy Country Club. He is the son of the late Charles Peter and Mable Hutt Gableman. He married Jean McCormick in Gallipolis, Ohio in 1940 and is the father of Lynn (Mrs. Robert O. Rupp) of Buckhannon, WV. A brother, Charles Hutt Gableman died in 1984. He has three grandchildren, Abigail Buehrer Rupp Benjamin, Emily McCormick Rupp, and Thaddeus Robert Rupp, all living in the D.C. area. He has three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Alexis, and Maria Benjamin. Arrangements are for a 2pm graveside service on January 6, 2010 at Mount Hill Cemetery in Gallipolis, Ohio.
