McKinley “Mac” Marshall Luther

McKinley “Mac” Marshall Luther, age 97, of Buckhannon, WV, died on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Mountain Memories in Elkins, WV.

He was born on January 13, 1926, in Lynchburg, VA, to Marshall McKinley Luther and Margaret Alberta Luther. Mac grew up in the South Hills of Charleston, WV and in Washington, DC.

He was married on September 15, 1948, to Marjorie “Marge” Anne Latham, who sadly preceded him in death on August 13, 2020, after a wonderful marriage of 72 years.

Mac is survived by daughter, Linda L. Cronin and husband Terry; granddaughter, Callie Cronin Sams and husband Nathan; grandson, Timothy M. Cronin and wife JiaJia Jin; great granddaughter, Willow Jane Cronin Sams; step great grandson Isaac Smith Sams; two sisters, Donna Kriss and Paula Byrd; sister-in-law, Claire Latham; and several nieces and nephews along with their spouses and children. Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents and wife, were his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Jeffries; brother-in-law, George Latham; brother-in-law, Richard Latham and wife Nancy; and infant great granddaughter, Ula Estelle Cronin Sams.

Mac enlisted in the US Army Air Corp immediately following high school graduation and served until the end of World War II. He obtained a BA and JD from American University, where he met Marge and his brothers-in-law.

Mac was a Presbyterian and served as an officer of the church. He had an almost 40-year career in the printing industry, including as President of the National Association of Printers and Lithographers and as President of the American Gravure Association, both in New York City.

In retirement, Mac and Marge joined their daughter and family back in West Virginia, living happily at Alpine Lake and then Buckhannon. He enjoyed gardening and playing golf, as well as spending winters in Port Aransas, TX. But he most enjoyed being a proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved dearly everyone that he has now left behind.

Honoring his wishes, Mac’s body has been cremated and his ashes combined with those of his wife. His family extends a special thank you to the caring staff at Mountain Memories.

Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.  Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
