James Robert Beckner “Lightning”

James Robert Beckner “Lightning”, age 76, of Buckhannon, WV, died  Friday, May 8, 2026, at J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born June 19, 1949, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Charles and Reva Robinson Beckner. On October 27, 1967, he married Charlotte Squires who survives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jimbo Beckner; daughter, Shelia Seymour; 11 siblings, Leonard, Billy, David, Rick, Danny, Dorothy, Hazel, Betty, Nancy, Reta, and Karen and special nephew, Melvin. In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by one son, Joe Beckner of FL; three granddaughters, Susan Asplen, Dawn Seymour, and Christina; one grandson, Ryan Asplen and wife Tori; three sisters, Sherry Posey and husband Jerry, Linda Mealey, and Connie Canter; one son-in-law, Perry Seymour; a special nephew Tony and his three beloved puppies, Elmoe, Mindey, and Peanut. Mr. Beckner was a U.S. Army Veteran, Methodist by faith, and drove trucks for over 51 years. He was a  member of the VFW, American Legion, and UMW. Friends will be received, Monday, May 18, 2026, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Wease L. Day officiating. The Upshur County Honor Guard will perform military honors at the funeral home. In honoring Mr. Beckner’s wishes, he will be cremated following the services.
