Michele Lynn Mellon, born Michele Lynne Hahn on December 9, 1947, passed away peacefully at her home in Buckhannon, West Virginia, surrounded by family and love. She died following an injury and subsequent stroke. Michele was born and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the beloved daughter of George F. Hahn, USMC, and Jean Krisko Hahn. She grew up alongside her cherished brother, Jeffrey S. Hahn, with whom she shared a lifelong bond rooted in family and devotion. Also, a devoted Catholic, Michele found great solace and strength in her faith and the Church, which remained a constant source of comfort throughout her life. On November 3, 1973, Michele married Louis Robert Mellon, who preceded her in death in 1999. Through that marriage, Michele was gifted with two daughters whom she loved as her own. Elizabeth Ann (Mellon) Wilson, married to Mark Wilson of Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, and Nancy (Mellon) Slaughter, married to William Slaughter of Buckhannon, West Virginia. Michele was honored to call Trisa, Tyler, Jaclyn, Jordan, Kaleb, and Kaitlyn grandchildren, and felt her life was only richer as a great-grandmother to Aubriana and Khaleesi. Aunt Shelly held a very special place in her heart for her nieces. She dearly loved Erika (Hahn) Kooistra, married to Stefan, and their daughter Addie, as well as Krissy (Hahn) Leonard, married to Jason, and their children Brodie, Barrett, and Hayden. Shelly and/or “Aunt Shelly” had a tremendous love for her family connections that reach to so many corners of the country. In 2005, Michele moved from Manor, Pennsylvania, to Palm Harbor, Florida, a place that came to hold a special piece of her heart. She loved the sunshine, the simple pleasures, the belonging, the lifelong friends made, and spending time with her bother and family. Michele—known affectionately as “Shelly” to her friends—spent much of her life doing work she truly loved at Hallmark stores, from Harrison City, Pennsylvania, to Palm Harbor, Florida. She had a special love for writing and receiving letters and cards from and with friends—Hallmark, of course—and treasured staying connected through handwritten cards and notes. She enjoyed watching a NASCAR race, cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and sharing weekly Survivor recaps with her brother, a ritual that brought her extraordinary joy. Having learned the “art” of shopping at an early age from her mother, Michele found happiness browsing—or “dilly-dallying”—through markets, shops, and stores. Michele’s quiet strength, warmth, faith, and loving spirit created a sense of comfort wherever she was. She leaves behind a legacy of love, connection, and devotion that will continue by all who know her. The family will gather at a later date to honor her life, in both Florida and Pennsylvania. Mom/Mommom will be forever loved and deeply missed. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
