Shirley Ann Mason Schilling

Shirley Ann Mason Schilling, age 89, of Buckhannon, WV, died Sunday, June 22, 2025, at WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born August 22, 1935, in Replete, WV, a daughter of the late Arnett and Ruby Chipps Root. On May 30, 1953, she married Brent Earl Mason who preceded her in death on September 6, 1987. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her second husband, Walter Schilling; one brother, Leanol Root and one son-in-law, Chuck Zickefoose. Surviving are two sons, Kenny Mason and wife Mary of Wakefield, RI and Mark Mason and wife Yvonne of Salem, VA; one daughter, Brenda Zickefoose of Clarksburg, WV; six grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; special friends, Ginger Cutright and Nancy Riley of Rock Cave, WV and lifelong friends, Mary Stump, Shirley McCord and Twila Casella all of Buckhannon. Mrs. Schilling was a homemaker and an activities director at UHC in Bridgeport, WV and at the Wishing Well in Fairmont, WV. She was a founding member of the Modern Homettes, a member of the Birthday Girls and loved playing Bunko. If you were lucky enough to meet Shirley, you were sure to walk away smiling or laughing. In honoring her wishes, Mrs. Schilling will be cremated. The family will hold a Celebration of Shirley’s Life on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the South Buckhannon Mission Church from 12 Noon to 2:30 PM. All of Shirley’s family and friends are invited.
