David Robert Asson, Jr.

David Robert Asson, Jr., 81, of DeBary, Florida, passed away in his beloved West Virginia on Monday, May 19. Born in Pittsburgh PA, he was a graduate of Homestead High School. He served in the US Navy in Georgia where he met his future wife, Patsy. With his family he lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, and Florida.

His long career in Telecommunications included work as an installer, trainer, and mentor for Western Electric, AT&T, and Lucent.

Dave was a passionate outdoorsman who enjoyed family time, nature, and hunting in “Almost Heaven” West Virginia. His countless acts of service included serving as a volunteer firefighter in Munhall and West Mifflin (PA), serving as a Citizens on Patrol (COP) Auxiliary Police in DeBary, FL as well as Judge of Elections at the polls in Volusia County, Florida. He also enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family and friends, and viewing his hometown Pittsburgh’s sports teams. He will be missed by his community members in DeBary, Florida, where he was dubbed “Mayor of St. John’s Woods” where he regularly walked Luna, his beloved Yorkie, through the neighborhood and visited with neighbors.

Dave is survived by his wife of more than 60 years Patsy Lee Asson; their three daughters Lynette Asson and wife Yvonne Hudson, Karen Asson and partner William Plenge, and Jennifer Asson; as well as sister Narda Funk of White Oak and sisters-in-law Phyllis Courson (Johnny), Lorraine Harrison (Mike), Kathy Asson and Thelma Lee. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Dave is preceded in death by his parents David R. and Evelyn (Slater) Asson, mother-in-law Louise Moore, brother Robert Asson, and brothers-in-law Thomas L. Funk and Larry Lee.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to caring family and friends and to the doctors and staff of  United Hospital Center, Bridgeport, West Virginia.

A Celebration of his life will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church in Pittsburgh, PA on Tuesday, May 27. A brief service will take place at 4pm, followed by visitation until 7pm. A Celebration will also be scheduled for DeBary, FL at a date to be determined.

In honoring Mr. Asson’s wishes he will be cremated.
