Gary Franklin Hershman, age 84, of Buckhannon, WV, died Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at his home. He was born December 1, 1940, in Parsons, WV, a son of the late Frank and Lucille Nestor Hershman. On June 27, 1981, he married Shirley Smith, who preceded him in death on January 12, 2024. He is survived by one son, Gary Lee Hershman (Donna); one step-son, Tom Smith (Janet); four step-daughters, Vicki Hammel (William), Diane Hatfield (Bill), Kay Snyder (Steve), and Beverly Lewis (Tim); two grandsons, Josef and Joel Hershman; 11 step-grandchildren; 17 step-great grandchildren; three step-great great grandchildren; one brother, Randy Hershman (Jenny); one niece, Andrea Moore and one great-nephew Blake Moore. Gary was a diesel mechanic and retired from Cummins. He enjoyed wood working, tapping the maple trees, quilting, and baking cookies. He will be missed by all who loved him. The family would like to express their gratitude to WVU Home Health and WVU Hospice for all the excellent care they provided for Gary. In honoring Gary’s wishes, he will be cremated.
