Russell was like a son to me. I met him at a yard sale I had at our home about 33 years ago. His Mother was at our yard sale and heard about our son's car problems. His Mother heard us talking and she said my son Russell can fix it for you. That was the beginning of our relationship.
Over the years he did work for us and was always fair in his pay.
He was invited many, many times to our home for dinner and enjoyed his food. He was especially fond of my strawberry pie. I made him many of them over the years and he would pick them up and said he ate the whole pie. When he returned the empty pie plate, he would say now you can make me another one soon.
I had mixed feelings when he told me he was going back to West Virginia to live as I knew how much I would miss him as he was like family, and he told me he thought of me as a mother. He would call me and say I have crabs for you and I would go pick them up. Russell was a kind & loving man who loved his family and worked very hard to provide for them. He will be missed.

I met Russel just about a month ago when I needed a minor plumbing job completed at the house. He was quick to respond and finished the job professionally and in a timely manner. Afterwards he hung around for another hour just talking. I gathered from our chat he enjoyed working and loved his family even more. RIP Russell
Sending my condolences to the family. Jim Lawrence

I had never met Russell, but someone had recommended him on facebook, and I needed some plumbing done. I called his number and he stopped by that same afternoon. He fixed my issue. I enjoyed visiting with him. He was a kind man. I am so sorry for your loss.

We really got to know Russ when he completed a big project at our house in 2019. The project took six weeks and Russ was there every morning M-F on time as he said, 8:00 a.m., which meant he pulled in each morning at 7:40 a.m. sharp! Having just retired I was home and spent most of the days talking with Russ, hanging around him, helping him anyway I could (he didn't need much help). We talked about everything including politics, current events, etc., but we especially had some deep discussions about God, the Bible, and the Christian faith. Russ listened, asked some pointed questions, and had good insight. It was clear he was learning and growing in his faith. I always offered him food, but he alway declined, "nope, Judy made me a good lunch again, I'm good." There wasn't a day of work where Russ didn't talk about Judy, his kids, their spouses, and his grandchildren, of whom he was very proud. Becky and I have shed tears with Russ's passing. We will miss him very much and we know his family will be grieving over his passing. Russel Helton is in heaven, he is no longer troubled by this world, and we all look forward to seeing the wonderful things he has built in preparation for the "new heavens and the new earth." He is busy now building, and has that awesome smile on his face as he works for the Lord and awaits his family. "There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his bondservants will serve Him, they will see His face." Revelation 22:3-4
